because I've lived every bit of it
I spend my spare time doing what I love — making beautiful, handcrafted items. Perfecting designs. Coming up with new ideas. Trying to stand out, be unique, be above the rest. But somewhere between the candle pours and the resin moulds, I also had to figure out social media, write posts, design adverts, set up market stalls, raise a family, hold down a full-time job, and somehow carve out a future in a world being reshaped by AI — a world that's uncertain for all of us, and for our children too.
I've stood at market stalls in village halls watching people walk straight past. I've smiled at browsers who wouldn't make eye contact. I've packed up my carefully crafted products — products I spent hours making — and driven home having barely covered the stall fee. I've relied on organisers who didn't market the event. I've set up on days when families chose days out instead, and watched my target audience dwindle away along with my energy, my confidence, and my belief. Doubt crept in. It always does.
The craft market model is beginning to break away for makers — and it's no wonder. I come from 25+ years in enterprise IT — I've supported a Formula 1 team, worked at a global tech company, and spent decades solving complex problems with technology. Now I'm using every bit of that experience to build something for us.
